The S&P 500 Index declined 17.4% from its all-time closing high of 6144.15 on February 19th to a closing level of 5074.08 on Friday, April 4th. The decline this past week was accelerated by monumental changes to U.S. trade policy. The Nasdaq Composite index has fallen even more, dropping 22.7% from its December 16th closing high.
As early as fall 2024, the Marketimer stock market timing model began raising warning signals. We watched and waited for a health-restoring correction that never arrived, leaving the market exposed to a more significant decline.
